Kids Stuff at Home
There's plenty for the kids at our house. We have 2 children ourselves so know that if they are happy, you are happy. This is Max, age 6, throwing himself down the sand dune at Salir.(He is now aged 10 and highly embarassed by this picture!). The pool will keep them occupied and no worry about it being overcrowded. Please note that the pool area is not fenced off however there is a wall all around the terrace and a gate so that smaller children cannot wander to the pool unattended.
The basement has been converted into a games room with pool table, table tennis, darts and ..coming soon..table football so plenty to keep teenagers out of your hair! Please supervise under 10s down there as darts and pool cues can do a lot of damage....not least to the children themselves!!! In the playroom next to the kitchen there are games, lego, train track etc . There are also tennis & badminton rackets, football and other beach toys.
If you have younger children you can rest easy as the house has stair gates, a cot and a travel cot, booster seat for mealtimes (feel free to take it to restaurants with you) and also a high chair. There's even a step in the bathroom in case they can't reach to brush teeth, kid size cutlery & plastic plates & cups.
There are several water parks close to the house. Norpark the closest (20 minutes) just north of Nazare http://escapadelas.com/pt/node/789 (in portuguese but google can translate it). Amarante Waterpark is in Penich, about 30 minutes away. There is also an Aquapark at the caves in Mira D'Aire. www.grutasmiradaire.com/
Swimming, Tennis & Bowling
There is a brand new outdoor pool 2 minutes from the house towards the beach (see picture). 2 minutes from the house is a tennis court which can be booked at the community centre in Salir.
Just off the A8 in Caldas (10 minutes drive) is a newly opened bowling alley. www.bowlingcaldas.com There is rarely anyone in there....and usually only English people during the day so you shouldn't have to queue to play!
For older kids there are lots of water sports available locally. Follow the links for more information. http://www.balealsurfcamp.com/ http://www.cnsmp.org /http://www.escoladeveladalagoa.com/
